2018 Chengdu Dubai International Cup Wrapped up in City

The fifth Chengdu Dubai International Cup, co-held by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government and Emirates Racing Authority, was held April 7 at Chengdu’s Wenjiang District.

The competition, with a total reward of RMB3.75 million, attracted five Chinese jockeys and nine from the Netherlands, England, Ireland, Italy and Argentina, etc. They took part in five races, including the Wenjiang Sprint - First Leg of the Jockey Challenge (1,400 meters), Meydan Handicap (2,418 meters), Guangsha Handicap - Second Leg of the Jockey Challenge (1,600 meters), Chengdu-Dubai International Cup (2,218 meters), and Wenjiang-Meydan Classic (1,600 meters).

Patrick Dobbs, an Irish rider, won the first place in the Wenjiang Sprint. Tadhg O'Shea, who also comes from Ireland, became the champion of both the Meydan Handicap and Guangsha Handicap. And in terms of the Chengdu-Dubai International Cup and Wenjiang-Meydan Classic, the winner was Richard Mullen, a jockey from England.

"It is a great honor to compete in Chengdu, and I love this city," said Mr. O'Shea. He added that Chengdu is a beautiful and livable city.
